| TWELFTH MAN Definition: (informal) (sports, especially in football) The positive impact had on a team, from the activities of its fans or supporters. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary, for the players, whether support was requested or was freely offered. 2. Present from the beginning of the game - not waiting to be disadvantaged before coming on. 3. Creates a special atmosphere by or from its presence. That is, charges the playing environment... sings, claps, etc. But, no racism or unsporting behaviour is involved. 4. Never directly connects with the referee such as to be able to influence the officiating... shouting out warnings to team players ! 5. Serves purpose(s) - winning or losing - and won't apportion any blame afterwards... harangues the officials. 6. Must not be violent towards an opponent, after a match or game, especially if team lost.... heckles or boos, during play only. 7. Will remain a life-long supporter of the team - still the provider of a second wind next time. 8. Magnanimous in victory, and also in defeat, i.e., with a true sense of sportsmanship. _______________________ * 'One man' with and/or like more than thousand voices.
