SIEVE CELL

Definition: (botany) An elongate, tapering, thin-walled cell with a protoplast but without a nucleus when mature, and with areas of its walls closely perforated with minute openings. It is characteristic of the phloem and is variously modified to serve in sieve tubes and for storage and support.
