CONDIGNNESS (1)

Definitions:

i. The word comes from Latin: con- means "together, altogether" and dignus means "worthy". So, something that is condign is deserved or appropriate. It especially applies to a punishment that is severe but just, meaning the punishment is appropriate for the crime.

ii. The quality of being condign.

iii. Agreeableness to deserts; suitableness.

1. Believed purposeful and necessary to follow the letter of the law.

2. Remorse wasn't shown or an apology wasn't tendered by the guilty.

3. Protest or appeal would not be made or lodged, at point in time.

4. Pain and hurt was felt by whoever got a punishment or sanction.

5. Option or alternative to lessen severity would not be available.

6. Society, public will be satisfied with extent of appropriateness.

7. 'Sinner' lives to learn some real hard lesson from the punishment.
