NEWTON'S RINGS

Definition: An interference phenomenon observed when a convex lens surface is placed in contact with a plane surface. A series of circular colored bands concentric with the point of contact is observed, because of the interference of the light waves reflected from the top and and bottom of the air film between the two surfaces.
