WORKFARE

Definition: A system in which unemployed people have to work in order to get money for food, rent, etc. from the government.

1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. The people involved are truly unemployed or 'unemployable' in a formal way or in a regular system.

3. The employment vacancies or job openings are given on a 'first-unemployed-first-engaged' basis.

4. Work is not considered as 'slave labour'. That is, worker will be alive and well enough, after end of work, to enjoy the money - fruits of his or her labour - that will be received from government.

5. Money received will be considered as commensurate, not necessarily enough, with the labour expended on task.

6. The money is received on time and fully, and hopefully, tax-free, as in an agreement, arrangement or by understanding.

7. System does not prevent persons from searching for more permanent, better paying jobs.

8. System achieves objective(s) (connect to #7).
