i. The crime of demanding money from a person by threatening to tell somebody else a secret about them.

ii. Extorting money by threats of exposure, intimidation, etc.

1. Purposeful and necessary in the opinion of blackmailer.

2. Information (= secret?) possessed is truly damaging.

3. Anonymous. So, the blackmailer is never found out and the money, therefore, never returned or recovered.

4. Ransom or sum paid was agreed amount (or minimum expected amount). Never less and never more.

5. Benefit or gain (the money!) lasts for as long as envisaged.

6. Ruins the victim in the short, medium or long run - financially, psychologically, etc.
