UPSET (2)

Definition: (in a competition) A situation in which a person or team beats the person or team that was expected to win.

* All eight elements would be in.

1. Outcome of mismatch or unevenness was not planned or prearranged. That is, efforts put in by all were maximum. (To emphasize.)

2. The odds were stacked against the so-called weaker person or team.

3. A serious loss will accrue to loser. And a substantial gain will be secured by winner.

4. Victory obtained will not be considered as Pyrrhic.

5. No excuses will be given by the defeated person or team. Or excuses, if any, will be untenable. That is, officiating was excellent, rules were fair to both sides. In other words, the playing field was 'level'.

6. No immediate opportunity will be provided for a rematch and a possibility of exerting a 'revenge' by the loser.

7. (Reserved.) (Victor or winner, though hopeful at the start of contest, did not quite expect to comprehensively defeat opponent.)

8. Rout or victory was genuinely won. That is, no cheating was involved in securing win.
