| UNKNOWN SOLDIER Definition: (usually - the Unknown Soldier) A soldier who has been killed in a war, whose body has not been identified, and who is buried in special ceremony. The Unknown Soldier is a symbol for all the soldiers killed in a particular war or in wars generally. ______________________________________________________________________ * All seven elements should and would be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary to have 'tag' given. 2. Not a soldier of fortune or one on AWOL or ... . 3. Soldier did not wish to be unrecognized. That is, fought war with the intention to live after end of battles. 4. Unidentified 'body' has no rank on uniform, no accoutrements or ID card to show, corps, unit, battalion, brigade, etc. 5. No telltale sign, no distinguishing feature, etc. on body to indicate race, origin, age, etc. 6. Known to - okay, suspected - by the family, next-of-kin, etc. as the body of loved one, even if corpse/deceased is tagged or claimed as unrecognizable by the authority! 7.
