TUG OF LOVE (2)

Definition: (British English, informal) A situation in which a child's parents are divorced or no longer living together and are fighting over who the child should live with.

1. Purposeful and necessary in the opinion of 'fighters'.

2. Paternity of 'bone of contention' is not in dispute or doubt.

3. Child has no say in the matter; never asked his/her preference.

4. Both parents will claim an equal amount of love for child.

5. A court, child or welfare agency, etc. will not be involved in intervening in matter.

6. No injury, wound, etc. will be suffered, especially by child, in the course of 'fight' by parents.

7. 'War' does not take place in the presence of child (connect to #6, to emphasize).

8. 'Fight' lasts for period of time considered appropriate, whatever the expenses or dangers involved.

9. A victor will emerge at the end of 'fight'. And the winner, should, hopefully ..., be child's favourite parent.
