Definition: (especially North American English) An official record of a student's work that shows the courses they have taken and the marks/grades they have achieved.

1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. Record contains no alteration (= falsification?), such that will cast a doubt on the veracity of the details or contents.

3. Details in record including marks/grades, courses, student's names, academic year(s), department and other relevant information are correct and complete.

4. Record has a mark of authorization. That is, record is approved or endorsed by the right faculty/departmental member(s)/official(s).

5. Marks/grades in record can be properly interpreted. That is, where necessary, a 'key', an appropriate comment or remarks, etc. is/are provided in record, for ease of understanding.

6. Print and writing are clear and plain and the material on which details are recorded is durable.

7. Serves purpose(s), whether or not an admission, etc. is secured !
