Definition: A serious play with a sad ending, especially one in which the main character dies; plays of this type.

* All seven elements should be in.


1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. Promoted and/or advertised as one. (To emphasize.)

3. Storyline is understandable. That is, the plot can be followed.

4. Acting, that is, the stage or screen performance by the actors/actresses, etc. is excellent.

5. Death of main character marks the end of play (to emphasize).

6. Viewer(s), reader(s), movie-goer(s), etc. will be emotionally affected by play, especially by the final turn of event. And no possibility of a 'resurrection' in a follow-up part or presentation.

7. Play or dramatization serves purpose(s) or achieves goal(s).
