Definition: (of a contest/race) A situation in which runners, teams, etc. seem to be equally good.

1. Officiating will be excellent.

2. Equipment will be in good working conditions.

3. Efforts that will be put in by all the participants will be of same quality. That is, no competitor will have an undue advantage before the start of race, etc. And none will cheat during event.

4. Expectation by all - racers and officials - will be for a close finish, from the records, antecedents, qualification marks, etc. of the competitors.

5. What will separate racers at the 'finishing line' - time, length or distance, space, etc. - will be minuscule.

6. Some extra effort will be made to get competitors' placing right, even if no dispute arises from complaints by runners, teams, etc.
