TIEBREAK (1)

Definition: (in tennis) A period of extra play to decide who is the winner of a set when both players have won six games.

* Here we go ... the decider ... all six elements should be in.

1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. The standard or level of play will not be lower than in the previous twelve games.

3. Umpire and line judges perform excellently; without bias, observing the rules, etc.

4. Lasts for an appropriate duration, but this will be only as determined by the players. That is, exhaustion or collapse will not occur after completion of extra period. (In other words, players will not be so tired as to be unable to do any other physical activity after period of extra play.)

5. No unplanned loss - to rackets, line judges, ballboys, etc. - arises as a direct outcome of 'extra time' spent playing.

6. Serves purpose(s). That is, winner emerges after period of extra play, however long it lasts!
