Definitions:

i. An act of trying to take the ball from an opponent in football (soccer), etc.; an act of knocking an opponent to the ground in rugby or American football.

ii. (Football, soccer, rugby, etc.) To intercept, seize, obstruct, pull down (an opponent with the ball).

1. 'Timed', i.e. when the one who tackled escapes a sanction, because the infringement is not seen or is judged as being in order (by a compromised official (?)), wounded or injured opponent notwithstanding.
