| STORYLINE Definition: The basic story in a novel, play, film/movie, etc. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary, whatever the subject matter. 2. The component parts (= chapters, acts, stages, scenes, etc.) are complete and connects, however arranged, written or performed. That is, all the events in story will be appropriately intertwined. 3. Basic will be constant and fixed; has a distinct beginning and determinate end, whatever the style of narration or portrayal. 4. The details of basic structure can be simply interpreted and easily followed (UNDERSTANDABLE). 5. Details will be compelling and/or captivating (INTERESTING) and therefore worth reading, seeing or watching to the end. 6. Details make sense and teach a lesson, etc. and will be as close to reality as possible (MEANINGFUL). 7. Leaves or has no unanswered question, especially at the end. That is, there will be no whodunit in the final analysis, unless ... . 8. Basics do not have a striking similarity with the details of another book, film, drama, etc. 9.
