| SLUMLORD Definition: (North American English, informal) A person who owns houses or flats/apartments in a poor area and who charges very high rent for them even though they are in bad condition. ______________________________________________________________________ * All seven elements would be in. 1. Does not live in the particular area. 2. Charges or rents will usually be collected in advance. 3. Avoids using methods that will involve payments to others for agency or legal fees. That is, will prefer not to use a caretaker or third party for collection of the monies due. 4. Will be very aware of the bad condition of his or her properties. 5. Will not make any attempt of effort to renovate, redecorate, repair, etc. the buildings. 6. Always planning or thinking of when next, and by how much, to increase the rent. 7.
