| SLASH AND BURN Definition: A method of farming that involves clearing land by destroying and burning all the trees and plants on it, farming there for a short time, and then moving on to clear a new piece of land. ______________________________________________________________________ * All seven elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary for farmer(s) to adopt style. 2. Land is wholly owned. Or permission to use land is fully secured. 3. 'Deforestation' is no illegality where activity takes place. 4. No economic trees or plants will be among the things destroyed and burned. And/or some benefits, where available, would have been secured from the trees or plants before the clearing (= burning). 5. Farming will be cost-effective. That is, cost of cutting the trees, transporting logs, etc. will be considered worth the effort. 6. Harvest from 'reclaimed' land will be bountiful and made timely. That is, farming activity will achieve goal(s), exactly as hoped for. 7. Land will still be rich and therefore useful after the harvest, whether or not new trees or plants are planted or grown on it. ______________________________ See perfect METHOD (1).
