| SHAGGY-DOG STORY Definitions: i. A very long joke with a silly or disappointing ending. ii. A funny story with a calculatedly feeble ending. It is told at length with exasperating detail. ______________________________________________________________________ * It's no ordinary ' joke or 'story' (to emphasize); a. Oral or written account, will be concluded/completed. b. Real or imagined event or events (may also be a news item in a newspaper, an anecdote, a rumour circulating or (popular) a lie!). c. Bits and pieces annoy and irritate beyond measure. d. Takes an unduly long time (either deliberately by the storyteller or/and in the opinion of the hearer(s) of the tale). e. Deliberately dim, unclear, indistinct conclusion to the tale. f. So hilarious, therefore, hearer(s)/listener(s) must laugh. g. h. __________________________________ * All eight elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary for joke teller. 2. Not known in the beginning that ending would be a flop. 3. Listened to, attentively, till the very end. 4. Not originally intended to be silly or feeble in the end. 5.
