| SEAWORTHINESS Definition: (of a ship) Having the quality of being considered to be in a suitable condition to sail. ______________________________________________________________________ * All ten elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary (To emphasize.) 2. Ship would have been checked thoroughly and confirmed to have no hole(s), crack(s), etc. through which sea water can get in and pose a risk to vessel. That is, hull will be in perfect order. In other words, vessel will be fit to sail. 3. Engines (and generators!), steering systems, propellers, etc. are confirmed to be in excellent serviceable condition. 4. Communication and/or radio equipment, including other navigational gadgets are all working perfectly. 5. Facilities and supplies, and safety devices such as its kitchen, fire-fighting equipment, drinking water, etc., to aid sustenance of life on the seas are complete, in adequate numbers and in correct order. 6. Valid and legal documentation and/or authorization, to sail in particular waters, and to have specific cargo, if any, is possessed. 7. Materials, tools, etc. that may be required to effect and support maintenance, cleaning, rescue, etc. are on board. That is, sextant, repair kits, first aid boxes, lifeboats, life rafts, life vests, fuel, food, etc. will be available in adequate quantities. 8. The Plimsoll line is marked rightly. And its level will be considered as appropriate before vessel goes sailing. 9. Neat, clean, tidy; hygienic. That is, its cabins will be okay or comfortable to stay in, its deck/floors will be safe to walk on, etc. 10. Who has responsibility for large boat - the Captain - will be most qualified and highly competent.
