Scolding
SCOLDING

Definition: The act or process of speaking angrily to somebody, especially a child, because they have done something wrong.

1. Purposeful and necessary - not uncalled for.

2. There is a certainty that wrong has been done - not anticipatory.

3. Who speaks angrily to offender did not initially contribute to causing the wrong - not of a sacrificial lamb.

4. Speech commences at the right time, once an awareness of wrong is had and when an impact can still be made by what will be said - not untimely.

5. Expression on face will convey some seriousness, and voice pitch will have some level of anger - not playfully.

6. Choice of words or wording will be appropriate - not dehumanizing.

7. The right and proper thing that ought to have been done will be pointed out and/or taught to wrongdoer - not blindly.

8. Act of correction, that is, speech, lasts for a duration considered as reasonable by 'victim' - not a sermon or tirade.

9. Offender is attentive, listens and hears all that will said during the period - not hot air to a 'deaf mute'.

10. Process serves purpose(s), without the threat of physical punishment accompanying 'talk': makes offender a better individual - not a lost cause.

11. The wrongdoer, especially if person is a child, is drawn closer or nearer, and friendship, cooperation, etc. with him or her, is resumed or continued afterwards - not a win-lose situation. (To emphasize.)
