Person is conscious and present, on earth, throughout the period that the changes are occurring. 2. Surprise is from the extent or measure - being the extreme of the level of changes expected, predicted or hoped for. That is, impact of change was never imagined. 3. No one shows appreciation of his/her being shocked - gets no support, encouragement, cooperation, hearing, etc. That is, person is virtually on his or her own. (Connect to #5.) 4. Stupefaction does not allow for a study or full understanding of the opportunities that are present in new situation (connect to #6). 5. Generally or usually wishes to be back in the past situation or level of development, or to return to the 'good old days'. 6.
