| RIFF-RAFF Definition: (disapproving) An insulting way of referring to people of low social class or people who are not considered socially acceptable. ______________________________________________________________________ * All five elements would be in. 1. Prospects of a bright future, for these persons, are very bleak. That is, no likelihood of a promotion, change of living standard, better quality of life, positive transformation, etc. (But who knows what tomorrow may bring?) 2. Self-worth, self-respect, self-love, self-importance, etc. will be absent from the behaviour of the persons concerned. That is, the peoples lives will be ruled by self-doubt, self-harm, etc. 3. Conduct or attitude of the people will generally have the hallmarks of meaninglessness, despondency and hopelessness. That is, a lack of confidence and inferiority complex will be predominant with the group of people regarded as the dregs. In other words, won't dare, protest, be offensive, resists an affront or take risks. 4. Persons being insulted will be deliberately avoided, given no chance, etc. by the people in a higher and exclusive class, that would have resulted in a support, an encouragement, etc. which might help to turn their lives and situations around for good. 5. People will not be supported by a law or an authority, officialdom or a rule, regulation, etc., and cannot be compelled, to be considered and treated, by the so-called superiors or betters, as tolerable or honourable citizens.
