| RELEGATION (2) Definition: (especially British English) The movement of a sports team, especially a football (soccer) team, to a lower position within an official league. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful, especially when not as a result of events off-field. 2. Considered a necessity for particular team to be downgraded as per the arrangement governing the league. 3. Position vacated is taken by another team from a lower division. 4. Regulations guiding sport are known to team before the start of competition or season. 5. Rules governing participation in league are not changed midway into the 'game' (= season). 6. No 'boardroom politics' is involved in the process of relegating particular team(s). 7. Officiating throughout season was not biased against particular team (to emphasize). 8. Team demoted will get promoted back to former (= superior) league at the earliest possible time - end of season following demotion (?). 9. Demotion serves purpose(s).
