REFORMATORY

Definition: (North American English) A type of school that young criminals are sent to instead of prison.

1. Purposeful to establish type of school (to emphasize, connect to #2).

2. Considered necessary not to send young criminals to other forms of correctional facilities/institutions.

3. School is officially recognized and properly established, with approved curriculum, regular syllabus, work placement, etc., as appropriate.

4. Well-manned or staffed by appropriately qualified officials/teachers/administrators, etc. (Connect to #8.)

5. Properly and constantly monitored by the regulatory authorities.

6. Qualification, certificates, etc. acquired are recognized outside the 'prison system'.

7. School serves purpose(s). That is, lessons, etc. taught in place imparts positive knowledge and 'reforms' the criminals as expected.
