| PYRRHIC VICTORY Definition: A victory that is not worth winning because the winner has suffered or lost so much in winning it. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Purposeful - the effort, if even only appreciated/known in the end. 2. Heavy costs of obtaining victory is known or envisaged from the start of application of efforts. 3. There is a necessity to obtain victory at all costs - whatever the reason(s) is/are - from the point of view of the person seeking success (connect to #2). 4. 'Suffering' or 'loss' that will come at the end of success is or has been psychologically prepared for. That is, suffering or loss is not or will not be 'unbearable' (connect to #3). 5. 'Suffering' or 'loss' is not or will not be shared with another person/party; that is, 'cross' is, or will be, borne alone. (And the gains of victory too!) 6. 'Suffering' will be forgotten through the benefits from victory, or 'loss' regained by the outcome of the success! In other words, suffering or loss is not 'irretrievable'. (To emphasize.) 7. Success attained serves purpose(s) (connect to #6). 8. Victory is possessed or sustained for period hoped or planned for. ________________________ WANTED AT ALL COSTS ! YET, ...
