| PUBLIC HOUSING Definition: (in the US) Houses and flats/apartments that are built by the government for people who do not have enough money to pay for private accommodation. ______________________________________________________________________ * All nine elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary. 2. Standard/quality of the building(s) is basic or good enough for the public (= ordinary people) in general. __________________ 3. Structure is maintained regularly and thoroughly by the appropriate organ/department of government/local authority, as applicable. 4. Environment, surrounding and/or premises are clean, neat and tidy. __________________ 5. Flats/apartments are not overcrowded. That is, the number of persons living in each flat/apartment is not likely to be the cause of a problem such as a health hazard or pose social challenges for tenants (connect to #3 & #4). 6. Housing is generally safe, secured and protected, provided by either communal/group arrangements or by the relevant authority. __________________ 7. Residents are truly 'the poor'. That is, on becoming prosperous or 'rich', occupants are moved elsewhere, for new 'poorer' tenants or the new nouveau riche are made to pay the appropriate rents. 8. Basic infrastructures are available in the flats/apartments. That is, flats/apartments are not just 'shells with roofs'. 9.
