| PUBLIC HOLIDAY Definition: A day on which most of the shops/stores, businesses and schools in a country are closed, often to celebrate a particular event. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eleven elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary (see definition). 2. Event being celebrated is deserving of a 'rest day'. That is, holiday is for a worthy cause. __________________ 3. Timely and officially declared by the appropriate authority. That is, never declared on the morning of the particular day and not announced by an unauthorized source(s). (Even if not on the calendar!) 4. Essential services (= medical, public transportation, security, fire departments, etc.) are on duty this day. (To emphasize, connect to #9, see definition.) __________________ 5. Shops/stores, businesses, etc. that are open on this day have the goods and services needed! (Connect to #4 & #7.) 6. Relaxation and fun spots are available and free (and safe) for holidaying people: picnickers, etc. __________________ 7. Prices of goods and services are not 'jerked' up on this day. 8. No unplanned loss occurs on 'free' day, especially for revellers or holidaymakers. __________________ 9. Criminals and gangs, rapists and thieves, fraudsters and suicide bombers, etc. are observing the 'off-day' as well. That is, holiday is crime-free! (To emphasize.) 10. Day serves purpose(s). That is, it goes excellently well, as planned or hoped for (connect to #6 & #9). 11. The people to resume at work/school are able to report at the normal time and perform their duties efficiently and effectively the following working day. Or studious as necessary. And others that are unemployed, are able to carry on the next day as usual. In other words, no negative after-effect, such as a hangover, tiredness or burnout, etc. from the 'rest'. __________________ | |
