| PSYCHOBABBLE Definition: (informal, disapproving) The language that people use when they talk about feelings and emotional problems, that sounds very scientific, but really has little meaning. ______________________________________________________________________ * All six elements would be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary, even if no full awareness while talking. 2. 'Gibberish' is understandable by listener(s)/hearer(s). __________________ 3. Language is not deliberately spoken. That is, decision to speak all the 'nonsense' is not from a full consciousness. 4. Language 'connects', however frightening or bombastic. That is, hearer(s) or listener(s) can react to the 'rubbish' being heard. __________________ 5. Feelings and problems are present or current. That is, language is 'live', uttered in the present tense (connect to #4, to emphasize, see definition). 6. Language, not its 'meaninglessness', serves purpose(s) - empathy, help, prognosis, treatment, etc. __________________ | |
