| PROTEGE Definition: (from French) A young person who is helped in their career and personal development by a more experienced person. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eleven elements should be in. 1. Youngster has made a proper, 'final' choice of career. That is, young person is on the right path, not likely to withdraw midway into 'training'. 2. Young person is not a prodigy or genius (to emphasize, see definition). That is, youngster does not know more than the so-called more experienced person! __________________ 3. Young person is willing, available and able to learn and be tutored - to obey, to asks any necessary, relevant question(s), to do research and assignments, etc. 4. Youngster is not taken advantage of in the process of being mentored by the more experienced person. __________________ 5. Help provided is appropriate and legal. That is, assistance being rendered does not violate any law, is the right type and of and in the correct measure. 6. Help received is not paid for by financial instruments or in any way (= cash, labour, etc.), by the learner (= youngster). __________________ 7. Help commences at the right time, when maximum/optimal result(s) can be obtained from the 'teaching'. (Connect to #8.) 8. Understudying has an end point. That is, 'coaching' period has a duration or time limit. 9. Youngster makes progress at the end of the learning period, when he or she is on his or her own. That is, help achieves objective(s) (connect to #10). __________________ 10. The young 'graduate' is still monitored after 'freedom'. That is, contact/communication exists between the 'master' and youngster, even after end of 'official' teaching period. 11.
