| PRIVILEGE (2) Definition: (disapproving) The rights and advantages that rich and powerful people in a society have. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Purposeful - for only the rich and powerful and their lackeys! Certainly not considered a necessity by the poor!! 2. Never legal or lawfully authorized - usually 'forcefully' claimed. _____________________ 'ILLEGALITIES'. 3. Rights and advantages are never shared with the poor and less powerful (to emphasize, connect #2). 4. Not really measurable and/or assessable, or specific and identifiable (connect to #3). _______________________ WHAT 'RIGHTS'? 5. Rights and advantages are 'conferred' on the 'lords' by the masses. That is, privilege is or can only be exercised with the express permission or 'cooperation' of the 'poor'. (Connect to #3.) 6. Serves purpose(s) for the rich and powerful. ___________________________ MOST ANNOYING (?). 7. Possession and enjoyment of rights and advantages by the rich and powerful denies others - the poor and weak - in the society access or accessibility to the same rights and advantages.
