Prisoner of war
PRISONER OF WAR

Definition: (abbreviation: POW) A person, usually a member of the armed forces, who is captured by the enemy during a war and kept in prison camp until the war has finished.

1. Purposeful and necessary - but only from captor's point of view.

2. Captured on active duty: in battle, not AWOL or while running away from the front line with the aim of being declared a deserter.

3. Provides useful leads, tips, etc. for the enemy forces, however information was extracted.

4. Resisted capture and inflicted 'injury' on enemy troops before being finally held.

5. Makes numerous failed attempts to escape while in captivity.

6. Prisoner is not abused during imprisonment. That is, no issue of sodomy/rape, hard labour, bestiality, starvation, etc.

8. Ex-pow is not punished or ostracized on return/repatriation.
