Primus inter pares
PRIMUS INTER PARES

Definition: (from Latin; meaning, first among equals) An informal expression that refers to a person who is considered and acknowledged as better than all the others in a select group.

1. Accomplishment, achievement, reliability, consistency, etc. will be just a touch higher or notch better than that of the others.

2. Will not be a bit-part player. And will not be seen to shirk a responsibility. Therefore, cannot be bad-mouthed or tongue-lashed.

3. Not regarded as 'first' as a result of being elected or selected or anointed. And remains 'Numero Uno' for as long as he or she is a member of particular group. That is, no other member will obtain or acquire a higher award, qualification, skill, etc. at the time.

4. Won't be opposed or confronted, distrusted or disbelieved, disrespected or 'dethroned' by the others.

5. Gets no material benefit or specific advantage for being the best among the best, especially where something is given to the collective.

6. Will be ready or willing to play a subordinate role or act as an assistant or deputy, to another member of group, if necessary.
