| BATED BREATH Definition: Breath held in fear, apprehension, anticipation, etc. ______________________________________________________________________ * All five or six elements, as applicable, would be in. 1. Neither planned nor speculative. That is, the cause - fright, worry, expectation, etc. - would occur unexpectedly at the time. 2. Air held will be true, natural; real. That is, not breath supplied by a life-support machine; not really a life-threatening activity. 3. Act will be marked by inaction or slowness. That is, stupefaction or a marked sense of panic will occur or be noticed during the period. Watching ... 4. Will be held for the appropriate duration - will not be 'puffed' out before the happening or occurrence that will dispel the fear, etc. 6. Breath on being released will not be smelly, stale or foul.
