Definition: (literary) A person or spirit that you cannot see but that you feel is near.

1. Cannot be avoided once you are in a conscious state; inescapable, unavoidable. But person or spirit will never become an apparition ... assuring or frightening.

2. Person would have been known or acquainted with, in the past, when he or she was alive, or recently. And spirit will not be altogether unfamiliar ... soothing or threatening.

3. Cannot be appeased or forgotten, pushed aside or disregarded. And will be 'there' for all time, or will be mostly permanent, especially once there is no preoccupation with a very serious engagement ... troubling or panicking.

4. Person or spirit never makes a demand or communicate with you, always leaves you to your conscience, and with your devices.

5. Keeps you 'alert' and/or on your toes - with worry or anxiety, assurance or relief - depending on the 'relationship' (connect to #4).

6. Feeling never needs a reminder to come about. That is, a picture, a legacy, an activity, event, etc. does not need to be seen or remembered, have to happen, etc. before nearness is felt.
