Definition: (in some British schools) An older student with some authority over younger students and some other responsibilities and advantages.

1. Purposeful and necessary (see definition).

2. 'Elected'. That is, appointee is, generally, very popular with the other students, however appointed.

3. Leads by example. That is, does not do what he or she tells the other students not to do (unless the special things are within the privileges being enjoyed as the students' leader).

5. Does not misuse the opportunities or advantages had.

7. Choice of older students serves purpose(s), as expected by school authority - good order and disciplined students population.
