| POISONED CHALICE Definition: (idiomatic - a poisoned chalice) (especially British English) A thing which seems attractive when it is given to somebody but which soon becomes unpleasant. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements would be in. 1. Thing will be accepted or received for some purpose(s) and with hope for good or goodness. (See perfect HOPEFUL.) 2. Recipient will consider thing necessary and so he or she would never be under a compulsion to collect of accept 'goodie'. [See perfect PRESENT (1).] 3. Thing will be specific and identifiable, measurable and/or assessable. And it will be impossible to manipulate thing to become a best or have some reliable usefulness. But, the unpleasant aspects of thing will be known by presenter. (See perfect MISCHIEF-MAKING.) 5. What will be required to use, apply, treat, handle, etc. thing will be possessed. That is, the expectation that some good, gain, advantage, etc. will come from thing will not be unfounded. [See perfect BANANA SKIN (2).] 6. Thing will not be patently illegal or illicit or immoral. And not a banned item. That is, thing does not, ordinarily, have a negative in its nature. (See perfect RETAIL THERAPY.) 7. The dislike that will be an end result will arise from a misuse, misbehaviour, misapplication, mishandling, misunderstanding, misapprehension, etc. of thing. And presenter will never apologize for the bad that will be encountered. (See perfect PARTING GIFT.) 8. Gain that thing provides will be very temporary.
