Poison pill
POISON PILL

Definitions:

i. (informal, business) A form of defence used by a company to prevent, or to reduce the effect of, a takeover bid that they do not want, for example by selling some of their important possessions.

ii. (business) A poison pill refers to what some companies do to reduce their value in order to prevent themselves being taken over by another company.
