Point of order
POINT OF ORDER

Definition: (formal) A question about whether the rules of behaviour in a formal discussion or meeting are being followed correctly.

1. Purposeful to raise point.

2. Considered a necessity (connect to #1).

3. At the right time - while the meeting or discussion is on.

4. There are rules, whether these are known or not.

5. A rule is or rules are not followed, in the opinion of person raising question (to emphasize). That is, point of order raised is justified/justifiable.

6. Question is raised by the appropriate person:

a. A person authorized to ask - be person a stakeholder or an observer.

b. Person is present at the meeting or participating in the discussion, even if via electronic means.

c. Person is attentive during meeting/discussion.

7. Properly raised, that is, the questioning (= point of order) follows 'due process', and what is pointed out as non compliance is made specifically known.
