Definition: (law) A formal statement of somebody's case in court.

1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. Clear, plain, detailed: understandable.

3. Not a self-indictment. That is, statement is not an admission of guilt, in the strict sense (to emphasize, connect to #9).

4. Provable. That is, there is evidence, alibi, etc. to support assertion or position stated in statement (if necessary).

5. Made promptly or timely and filed properly, in accordance with the rules of the court.

6. Has the backing of established legal doctrines, if no authorities.

7. Complete, whole. That is, statement leaves out nothing, that can be used to support case, for who makes same.

8. Not likely to be rejected on a technicality. (To emphasize, connect to #5.)
