| PITY (1) Definition: [ ~ (for somebody/something) ] A feeling of sympathy and sadness caused by the suffering and troubles of others. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements should be in. 1. Person feeling sympathy and sadness did not contribute to the situation (that will be PRETENCE OR DECEIT). 2. Feeling is not halfhearted. That is, pity is full, complete, especially when not in the presence of the people who are troubled and suffering (not SELF-DELUSION). 3. Feeling of sympathy and sadness lasts for a period of time, not a fleeting moment (that's REAL). 4. Feeling is not stated, that is, the word pity is not uttered or written directly to the object for whom the sympathy or sadness is felt (not to be misconstrued as MOCKERY). 5. An effort, a try or an attempt is made by person feeling sorry to solve or ameliorate the problem, even if it is by just asking, talking or being present (that is LOVE). 6. Person(s) suffering or troubled is/are not, in the opinion of person showing sympathy, deserving of the hardship (not COMEUPPANCE). 7. Person is not expressing sadness and sympathy because of the loss suffered or that will be suffered as a result of the sufferings and troubles of the others. Or, has no 'agenda' such as expecting a pity in return when his/her own sufferings and troubles arrive (that will be SELFISHNESS). 8. There is no hoping or wishing or a desire or planning that suffering and troubles of person(s) being 'pitied' be increased or that it does not end soon (connect to #1 & #6) (not CONSPIRATORIAL!). ________ SORRY.
