| PITCH (1) Definition: (British English) An area of ground, specially prepared and marked for playing a sports game. ____________________________________________________________________ * All four elements should be in. 1. Purposeful and necessary (see definition). 2. Area is approved to be used as a playing ground. | 3. Preparations and markings of area is first class. __________________ a. Right material(s) - artificial or natural turf, etc. - on the whole surface of the specified playing area; evenly spread, grown, applied, etc. (FOOTBALL/SOCCER). b. Accurate measurements/dimensions - penalty area, corner spot, etc., as applicable - and/or dimensions (HOCKEY). c. Correct and quality equipment and structure(s) on the playing field - ring(s), net(s), post(s), etc. - if applicable (RUGBY). d. Area has provisions - retractable roofs, drainages, etc. - to deal with the elements: rain, windstorm, etc. (BASEBALL). e. Marks are clear, not confusing - distinct colour(s), sharp edges, etc. - and present throughout playing period. That is, markings can 'withstand' a flood! (CRICKET). f. Area is appropriately protected - fenced, walled, etc. - to enable game to be played without hindrance (HANDBALL). g.
