Definitions:

i. [ ~ (for something) ] (especially in particular religions) An act that you give yourself to do, or that a priest gives you to do in order to show that you are sorry for something you have done wrong.

ii. Punishment or suffering undergone voluntarily to atone for sin or wrongdoing.

iii. To perform some act as atonement for sin or wrongdoing.

1. Purposeful and considered a necessity.

2. Wrongdoing is confessed, openly or directly to who or what was sinned against.

3. Where applicable or if possible, returns what was gained from the wrongdoing.

4. Offers an apology or makes a restitution for the wrongdoing.

5. Thing done or ordered to do is not what would normally be enjoyed or done happily.
