Overgeneralization
OVERGENERALIZATION

Definition: The fact of making a statement that is not accurate because it is too general.

* All six elements should be in.


1. Purposeful and necessary for who makes statement.

2. Statement lacks specificity and is not 'near-pointed'.

3. Some reasonable interpretation can be made from what is said, by listeners and/or hearers. That is, statement will not be completely worthless or meaningless.

4. No declaration, that excess generalization will be made, will precede statement.

5. Brings no real gain or benefit for who makes statement. And may result in an argument which can lead to a criticism or condemnation of who makes statement.

6. Statement is not an outright lie. (To emphasize.)
