OLD GUARD (1)

Definitions:

i. (usually - the old guard) The original members of a group or an organization, who are often against change.

ii. If you refer to a group of people as the old guard, you mean that they have worked in a particular organization for a very long time and are unwilling to accept new ideas or practices.

1. United and unbreakable as a 'team', especially when they think it necessary to oppose some specific proposed change or changes.

2. Reliable, experienced, dependable employees or staff, particularly when the status quo is being maintained or retained. (To emphasize.)

3. Will do nothing illegal or illicit or immoral to achieve goal(s). That is, won't be caught sabotaging the group or organization.

4. Never really ready to resign or quit, and/or not easy to fire, dismiss, expel, etc. from the group or organization: 'immovable'.

5. Able and available to be trained or retrained to meet the requirements of pending changes, even as they will eventually still not succumb to the undesired challenges ahead or to what they will assume to be future 'negative' circumstances.

6. Will cost the group or organization a huge amount of resources or funds to force people out, where desired by employer(s)/sponsor(s). And the unwillingness of the members or people to change will result in a colossal loss for the group or organization.

7. Will try to rationalize or justify 'stubbornness' and also proffer or offer selfish reason(s) for opposition to new ideas or practices.

8. Members or persons will have 'the day'. That is, refusal to agree to change or accept new ideas or practices will achieve objective(s), until or unless they receive golden parachutes that will get them quickly out of the way.
