OFFICER (1)

Definition: A person who is in a position of authority in the armed forces.

1. Properly trained and completed initial course on joining the armed forces. And so believed capable of leading men and managing materials.

2. Commissioned into, or transferred afterwards to, the preferred service or corps, whether 'active' (= 'front') or non-active (= desk).

3. Physically fit and healthy, at all times, especially when dressed in uniform and/or when performing his or her official duty.

4. Has an aspiration or the ambition to rise to the topmost possible rank or position in career, in line with the conditions of service.

5. Knows constitutional roles and duties, and performs assigned responsibilities satisfactorily - effectively and efficiently, to the best of his or her abilities, under all circumstances.

6. Making progress or will make desired progress the longer he or she stays in the army, navy, etc. - getting promotions, attending courses, etc., in spite of the challenges and/or dangers in job.

7. 100% loyal to his or her country, state, colleagues, etc. That is, can be counted on to be a reliable, dependable patriot, buddy, etc. especially in war times or during an operation or in tough moments.

8. Respects civilians, veterans, members of the paramilitary or civil defence, etc. That is, this person will be a gentleman or gentlewoman.

9. Aware of and knows that 'glittering' career will end someday, and so prepares appropriately and adequately for post-service years.

10. Will cooperate at all times with the police or law enforcement and others in position of authority in the sister services.

11. Obeys all lawful orders or valid instructions issued by competent superior authority. And will give only legal orders or proper instructions to persons under his command or authority.

12. Conduct or behaviour, appearance or presentation, mentality or attitude, etc., especially when off-duty or on leave, will be personable, defensible, and considered worthy of respect by all who will come in contact or communicate with this person.
