Nostrum (1)
NOSTRUM (1)

Definition: (formal, disapproving) An idea that is intended to solve a problem but that will probably not succeed.
______________________________________________________________________

* All nine elements should be in.

1. Purposeful - the idea (see definition).

2. Specific and identifiable, whatever the idea is.

3. Untested, though seemingly promising. That is, there is a belief before application that it (= idea) will work.

4. Tried - not only contemplated.

5. No unplanned loss, damage, etc. arises from the trial.

6. Problem is not complicated by the application of particular idea.

7. Can be improved upon. (And may, therefore, in new form, solve the problem.)

8. (If or when it fails) not retried or reapplied again, without a modification or alteration of the 'failed theory'. (Connect to #6 & #7.)

9. Never recommended to be used soon, again, in similar circumstances.
