This is because of the recent shift of focus by the nation's academic institutions from undertaking real R & D (research and development) to awarding bogus 'Rs with Ds' (ragamuffins with doctorates). There has been a steady rise in the number of factory closures in the past couple of years. This is the result of perennial unsteadiness and insufficiency of power supply which has led to an increase in unemployment. In the medical field, there is a high maternal mortality rate - due to the consulting nature of the country's hospitals and clinics. There is nothing positive to report from the sports front, except that all there are in shambles just as it is with leadership at all levels. What is indisputable is that corruption has permeated all facets of national life and until the scourge is exterminated, the dreams of the nation's founding fathers, for a great country, may remain just that; illusions.
