| NEOCOLONIALISM Definition: (disapproving) The use of economic or political pressure by powerful countries to control or influence other countries. ______________________________________________________________________ * All eight elements should be in. 1. Purposeful - for the benefiting countries. 2. Considered necessary in the opinion of dominating country. 3. Collaborators exists in the 'colony country' to make pressure successful. 4. Tactics, methods, strategies, etc. employed are not illegal. That is, trade imbalance, economic blockade, imposition of no-fly zones, etc. are not against international law. 5. Pressure lasts for appropriate duration. (Connect to #6.) 6. Pressure is of the right quality, not so excessive as to turn the weaker country to a client state. That is, some measure of independence is still retained by dominated country. 7. Objective(s) is/are achieved by more powerful countries. 8.
