NAMASKAR

Definition: (Indian English) A way of greeting somebody in which the hands are placed together as in prayer and the head is bent forwards.

1. Purposeful (see definition).

2. Considered necessary to greet in particular way.

3. Hands or arms are not trembling at the time.

4. Eyes are not closed (connect to #6).

5. No word is uttered by the person offering greeting. And no curtsy accompanies greeting, if offering is by a woman (to emphasize).

6. Head is not bent excessively. That is, person being greeted can still be seen by the person with bent head.

7. Action is seen by the target of greeting, even if not acknowledged.

8. No unplanned loss arises from the way person is greeted.
