Definition: (British English) (in education) The process of making sure that the same standards are used by different people in marking exams, etc.

1. Purposeful and necessary.

2. Marking scheme given to examiners is the same.

3. Examiners names or details are not disclosed on script(s).

4. Marks, scores, points, etc. awarded cannot be known by either or all of the examiners/markers during exercise.

5. Evidence of marking - 'the crosses and ticks' - is not available on the answer script(s) or on what is being (re)marked.

6. The qualification(s), experience(s), grade(s), etc. of the different examiners are very similar, if not same.

7. The time allowed for each examiner is considered adequate.

8. Examinee's details are not known by the moderators.

9. Process is concluded and achieves objective(s).
